Hitopadesha means Beneficial Advice. It is an Indian manuscript in Sanskrit language consisting of stories with animal and human characters. It incorporates sayings, worldly wisdom and morals on political affairs in a simple, elegant language. This has been popular, widely translated in many Indian languages, as well as languages found in Southeast Asia, Middle East and Europe. The Hitopadesha is structured into four books, with a preface section called Prastavika.
